When I layout a book interior, I never read the book word for word. The deadline to get interiors done plus the other books I have to do concurrently, does not allow me the time to actually read them. I was assigned this book to design both the cover and interior.

This is the third book of the series. I did not design the first two, so I was not very familiar with the series except for the information submitted to me from the publisher and the research I did before the cover design. A little bit about me, I love spy stories and stories with intrigue and suspense, especially if they can leave out all the “extra curricular” stuff that finds itself in most spy stories (just stick to the spy stuff and the gadgets please). This book was a page turner. Without spoiling too much of the plot, just in case you decide to read it (which I recommend), the beginning of one of the chapters caught my eye and I started to read. I finished the book and found out, spoiler alert, that the plot climax occurs on a large cargo ship. I used that information on the cover wrap, which I would have not known if I didn’t read the book. You can see a cargo ship super imposed in the bio hazard symbol on the back cover.

Even though it is impractical for me to read the book I lay out, because I read this one and used what I found in the book toward the design, I was given the next two of this author’s books to design.
